Paintings by Pat Shattuck
Welcome to my website
I am a watercolour artist living in the village of Portuguese Cove, just outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
My paintings are of two distinct subjects: city scenes and " not city " scenes.
The city of Halifax, founded in 1749, still retains many old buildings with very ornate architecture. When painting my urban scenes, I often use ink with my watercolour to highlight the beautiful details on the gables, eaves, rooflines and windows. I want to preserve these heritage objects in my work and enjoy painting the mixture of life and style of this historical city.
My rural scenes are inspired from the natural beauty of Nova Scotia. Living on the Atlantic Ocean's approaches to Halifax Harbour, there is a constant change in the weather and mood of the sea; from a fierce N'Or Easter to a tranquil sunny day with languid, mesmerizing sparkles on the water- " A Sparkle Day".
My Costa Rica "chapter" are paintings from time I have spent in a small beach town in this vibrant country. The intense heat and light create a very different atmosphere for this work.
Finding light, shadow and reflection fascinating , I endeavour to use these aspects to bring life and movement into my paintings.
I hope that you will enjoy my work.
